The individual films included within this programme are: The Rugged Island (1934): a drama-documentary about a young couple torn between the choice of emigrating to Australia or remaining to work their croft in Shetland. Eriskay (1935): a programme about Eriskay's crofting life, filmed during the summer of 1934. Life in the Orkneys (1957): a film depicting life in the Orkneys during the 1950s as seen through the eyes of a farmer, a mail boat skipper and a pilot.
